The paper focuses on examining the role of excellent research groups based on the six key relationships, including (1) Relationship among excellent research groups’ members; (2) Relationship between excellent research groups and host universities; (3) Relationship between excellent research groups and departments/ faculties/centers/research institutes; (4) Relationship among excellent research groups, universities and business community; (5) Relationship between excellent research groups and foreign organizations; (6) Relationship between excellent research groups in universities and the State.
