Abstract

In recent years, the increasingly complicated climate change has caused adverse impacts on rice production, hence improving rice varieties with high yield and good quality is the main objective of worldwide scientists. Marker-assisted backcrossing (MABC) is one of the powerful methods to introgress the specific quantitative trait loci (QTL)/gene into the elite rice variety. In the study, we have successfully transferred QTL/gene which controls the trait of increasing number of grains per panicle from the donor KC25 into the recipient NPT1. The results have revealed that the selected individual plant numbered 122 in the BC2 F1 population carried the target gene and attained the highest background of NPT1 up to 96.2%.
