RESEARCH ON SELECTION OF SOME HIGH QUALITY MEAT DUCK LINES

Abstract

With the purpose to create some high quality meat duck lines, the materials used in the research were SM3 Super Heavy and Super M3 ducks. Using two orientations: i) improving body weight for TC1, TC2 lines and ii) boosting egg production for TC3, TC4 lines, the research was done through 4 generations. Consequently, two selected meat duck lines (TC1 and TC2) had body weight at 5 weeks which was higher than the beginning generation from 73.34 to 97.27 g/head (4.75 to 5.29%); two selected egg duck lines (TC3 and TC4) had higher egg yield/female/48 laying weeks than the starting generation from 4.41 to 5.41 eggs (2.0-2.36%). FCR for egg production and egg quality of all 4 duck lines was improved as compared to the beginning generation. Therefore, these duck lines should be recognized and allowed to produce duck-parents and commercial ducks.
