Abstract

In this paper, a forest change detection approach based on object-oriented classification of Landsat ETM satellite image and GIS is introduced. From 2002 to 2014 the forest coverage increased by an amount of 83,815 ha in Dien Bien province. The highest forest loss is in Muong Cha and Tuan Giao, and forest gain is highest in Muong Nhe. The approach of remote sensing integrated with GIS is simple, updating, highly accurate and objective for researching into forest coverage change detection.
