Abstract

Stemming from the requirements of economic development of Mekong River Delta coastal region, the shrimp farming movement in the region has been expanding in terms of both sizes and forms of farming. In this context, the issues of zoning, farming models, and irrigation infrastructure system for the efficient and sustainable shrimp farming development become an urgent need regarding their technical, economic, and environmental aspects. From the farming models which are being effectively implemented in the Mekong River Delta combined with the results of water balance calculations, the authors introduce readers the solutions of irrigation infrastructure layout and the formulas to determine the sizes of intensive shrimp ponds in the Mekong River Delta coastal region.
