Recently, the polylactic acid/chitosan composite has been used as a drug carrier to regulate the drug release aim to increase the effectiveness and decrease the drug dosage. Polylactic acid/chitosan composite materials that carry 10-50% quinine sulfate were prepared by the water/ oilwater microemulsion method to study the release of quinine sulfate. Effects of quinine sulfate content, pH, and kinetics of quinine sulfate release were investigated. The results showed that polylactic acid/chitosan composite materials with higher quinine sulfate content exhibited slower speed release of quinine sulfate. The polylactic acid/chitosan composite materials that carry 50% quinine sulphate resulted in the slowest speed of quinine sulfate release. In pH=7.4 medium, the release rate of quinine sulfate was greater than the pH=2.0. The process of releasing quinine sulfate from polylactic acid/ chitosan/quinine sulfate composites was in accordance with the Korsmeyer-Peppas kinetic model and diffused according to the Fick law.
