Isolation and characterisation of lytic bacteriophages against Vibrio alginolyticus

Abstract

https://b.vjst.vn/index.php/ban_b/workflow/index/2956/5Bacteriophage%20is%20a%20virus%20that%20specifically%20recognises%20and%20infects%20bacteria.%20During%20the%20life%20cycle,%20bacteriophage%20destroys%20the%20host%20cell,%20so%20it%20is%20an%20attractive%20agent%20for%20researchers%20in%20developing%20biological%20solutions%20to%20specifically%20kill%20bacteria.%20In%20this%20study,%20two%20main%20objectives%20were%20addressed:%20isolating%20Vibrio%20alginolyticus%20bacteria%20and%20specific%20bacteriophages.%20The%20V.%20alginolyticus%20M1%20strain%20was%20isolated%20from%20shrimp%20pond%20water,%20and%20some%20morphological%20and%20biochemical%20characteristics%20were%20determined.%20This%20strain%20was%20identified%20by%2016S%20rDNA%20sequencing.%20Using%20the%20host%20strain%20V.%20alginolyticus%20M1,%20four%20bacteriophage%20strains%20showing%20strong%20host%20cell%20lytic%20activity%20were%20isolated%20from%20shrimp%20tank%20water%20and%20seafood%20market%20wastewater.%20The%20host%20specificity%20of%20the%20selected%20phage%20isolates%20was%20tested,%20showing%20that%20none%20of%20the%20four%20phage%20isolates%20lysed%20V.%20parahaemolyticus%20ATCC17802,%20V.%20parahaemolyticus%20BL,%20V.%20cholerae%20ATCC%2014733,%20V.%20vulnificus%20ATCC%2027562%20strains,%20and%20probiotic%20strains%20such%20as%20Bacillus%20licheniformis%20and%20Bacillus%20subtilis.%20Among%20the%20four%20selected%20strains,%20bacteriophage%20NT1%20exhibited%20the%20strongest%20lytic%20activity,%20thermal%20stability%20up%20to%2060o%20C%20across%20a%20pH%20range%20of%203-10,%20and%20is%20a%20promising%20candidate%20for%20developing%20biological%20control%20solutions%20against%20diseases%20caused%20by%20V.%20alginolyticus.
