Assessment of the current status and potential of environmental resources for the development of organic agriculture in the Central Highlands region, Vietnam

Abstract

The study was conducted in the Central Highlands region across four provinces: Dak Lak, Dak Nong, Gia Lai, and Lam Dong, aimed at assessing the current situation and potential of environmental resources for the development of organic agriculture. The main methods used in the study included secondary data collection, field surveys, environmental monitoring, and data analysis. The result has shown that the Central Highlands region has the potential for large and fertile land resources, a favourable climate, and abundant water resources for organic agricultural development. Currently, the natural environment quality including soil, water, and air in areas with organic agricultural production is still good, allowing for long-term maintenance and development. However, certain issues such as uneven water distribution, declining soil quality, and complex climate change are barriers that need to be addressed. In the coming time, there need to be comprehensive solutions for the development of organic agriculture in the Central Highlands, such as implementing a development plan for organic agriculture areas, building climate change adaptation plans for the agricultural sector, developing production and consumption chains of organic farm products, and enacting policies to support farmers in engaging in organic farming.
