Abstract

The assessment of the concrete strength using the ultrasonic pulse velocity is a nondestructive testing method. The strength of concrete shall be determined from the relationship diagram between the concrete strength and the ultrasonic pulse velocity using the direct transmission method. Depending on the location of the structure and the ultrasonic head, ultrasonic pulse velocity could be obtained by the direct or semidirect transmission methods. This paper aims to present the empirical conversion factor for the relationship of ultrasonic pulse velocity in concrete between semidirect transmission method (angle testing) and direct transmission method (direct testing) in a nondestructive laboratory.
