Abstract

In this study, 2% xanthan solutions were irradiated at doses ranging from 25 to 150 kGy for estimating the dose required to prepare low molecular weight xanthan that can be utilized as the bio-adhesive supplemented to foliar fertilizers to improve their effectiveness. The results revealed that viscosity and average molecular weight of commercial xanthan were quickly reduced by irradiation at 25 kGy, then slower reduced with the doses up to 150 kGy. Thermal stability and adhesion capacity of the irradiated xanthan also decreased by radiation degradation.
