Research on production of special diesel fuel DO L-62 at Dung Quat Refinery for national defense and security

Abstract

The article presents the results of research on commercialization of special diesel fuel DO L-62 at Dung Quat Refinery according to TCVN/QS 1754:2014 Standard to serve the fuel demand in the field of defense and security. DO L-62 is a high-quality fuel that meets strict requirements for performance, stability, and operational capability of warships and submarines under harsh conditions. Based on the study of technical documents, assessment of the impact of operating mode/parameters of Crude Distillation Unit and the properties of crude oils on product quality, the group of authors proposed optimal technical improvement solutions to produce new product DO L-62 on the existing technological system of Dung Quat Refinery. In the 2022-2024 period, the Binh Son Refining and Petrochemical Joint Stock Company (BSR) under the Vietnam National Industry - Energy Group (Petrovietnam) produced and supplied approximately 70,000 m³ of DO L-62 special fuel to the Ministry of National Defence. The results of this research also contribute to promoting domestic production, reducing dependence on imported fuel supply, ensuring national energy security, and enhancing Vietnam's self-reliance in producing fuel for defense activities.
