In the regime of the entire people’s ownership of land, the role of the State is one of the decisive factors in the effective use and exploitation of land resources, with a profound impact on the socio-economic development of the country. However, the current status of the State’s role in the land sector in Vietnam has many limitations, leading to the need to continue improving and meeting development requirements set in the new context. The article focuses on analysing and evaluating the current status of law and implementation of the State’s role in the land sector in Vietnam today in aspects such as: (i) the role of developmental orientation and regulation for the land use rights market; (ii) the role of supporting and encouraging the development of the land use rights market; (iii) the role of ensuring social security in the land sector; (iv) the role of adjusting, preventing and remedying shortcomings in the land use rights market. Thereby, this article proposes some solutions to improve the effective implementation of these roles in Vietnam to enhance the effective use and exploitation of land.
