Abstract

Reducing the life cycle cost of structures is a major challenge in Vietnam, where infrastructure development is underway. In the construction of infrastructure, weathering steels are able to be used for structures without painting, so weathering steels decrease the life cycle cost including initial cost (initial paint cost) and maintenance cost (repaint cost). On the other hand, it is necessary to judge the applicability of weathering steels at the construction site to use effectively weathering steels in the steel structures. Therefore, the authors proposed the criteria of applying weathering steels based on the results of environmental measurement and exposure test. As a result, the applicability of weathering steels could be determined. In the future, the life cycle cost will be decreased by applying weathering steels to steel structures in Vietnam.
