Soil nutrient status for the cultivation of fruit trees and medicinal plants in the western of Thanh Hoa and Nghe An provinces

Abstract

Forming and stabilizing the region of high quality speciality fruit trees and indigenous medicinal plants is an important orientation in the socio-economic development of the western of Thanh Hoa and Nghe An provinces. The study used the analyses of the physical and chemical properties of 14 soil samples to assess the quality of soils for planting fruit trees and medicinal plants. The results showed that: for fruit tree soils, organic matter (OM) was low (0.28-1.26% OM), total nitrogen was average, and total phosphorus and potassium were poor. These indicators of medicinal plant soils were higher than that of fruit tree soils though the values were not considerable. Therefore, in order to improve the quality of soils for cultivating fruit and medicinal crops in the western of Thanh Hoa and Nghe An provinces, it is necessary to implement appropriate rehabilitation measures.
