Abstract

(S)-clopidogrel bisulfate, a thienopyridine-class antiplatelet agent, is used to inhibit blood clots in coronary artery disease, peripheral vascular disease, cerebrovascular disease, and to prevent myocardial infarction. The authors have successfully synthesised (S)-clopidogrel bisulfate in five steps from commercial DL-2-clorophenyl glycin.
