Some plus trees of Camellia sasanqua Thunb. having high yield of seed and oil in nghe an province

Abstract

Completing evaluation of Camelia sasanqua Thunb. in 4 years at Nghia Dan (Nghe An) had selected 19 plus trees having 10.6-23.1 kg fruits per tree per year, 5.6-11.6 kg seeds per tree per year with oil content in kernels of 50- 56.97%. Oil yield of 19 plus trees ranged from 1.7 to 4.1 kg per tree per year, 123.3-434% higher than that of population (0.67-0.76%). The plus trees have acid index of 0.19-1.24 mg KOH/g oil and peroxide index of 1.92- 4.26 meqO2 /kg oil, lower than that following Vietnamese standard TCVN 7597-2007 for vegetable edible oil (< 4 mg KOH/g oil and < 10 meqO2 /kg oil respectively). These plus trees are good materials for later propagation and improvement of Camellia sasanqua Thunb. for high yield of seed and oil.
