The diversity of medicinal plant resources in Bac Lieu province

Abstract

A study of medicinal plants in Bac Lieu province was carried out and identified 387 species, 304 genera, and 108 families belonging to three phyla vascular plants as Polypodiophyta, Pinophyta and Magnoliophyta. Among them, 8 species were listed for conservation by Vietnam Red Data Book, Part II, Plants (2007) and the International Union for Conservation of Nature (2015), and  the Decision No 32/2006/ND-CP, and 78 traditional medicinal plants and 53 sample medicinal plants were listed by Ministry of Health (2013). The use of medicinal plants was also divided into three groups as follows (No): (1) by parts of plants, (2) by mode of using, and (3) by groups diseases. The form of medicinal plants was divided into six groups including (1) herbs with 185 species (47.8%), (2) shrubs with 84 species (21.7%), (3) small trees with 42 species (10.9%), (4) lianas with 42 species (10.9%), (5) big trees with 31 species (8.1%), and (6) hemiparasites with 3 species (0.8%).
