Diversity of Orchidaceae from Phu Quoc National Park, Kien Giang province

A study on the diversity of Orchids from Phu Quoc National Park in Kien Giang province was carried out and identified 125 species, 59 genera. Among them, all species (except for saprophytes) were used as ornamental plants; 10 species were used for medicinal herbs; and 3 species Paphiopedilum callosum, Dendrobium blaoense and Dendrobium ochraceum were listed for conservation in Vietnam Red Data Book, Part II, Plants (2007) and the Decree 32/2006/ND-CP of the Government. The life forms of Orchids were divided into groups including (1) epiphytes with 82 species; (2) terrestrials with 17 species; (3) epiphytes and lithophytes with 13 species; (4) saprophytes with 4 species; (5) lithophytes and terrestrials with 4 species; (6) epiphytes and lithophytes and terrestrials with 3 species; (7) lithophytes with 1 species; and (8) epiphytes and terrestrials with 1 species. Especially, three albino individuals of Paphiopedilum callosum species were found in the wild nature, and a new distribution of Liparis atrosanguinea species was also recorded for the flora of Vietnam.
