The Impacts of TPP on Viet Nam’s Livestock Sector: a Partial Equilibrium Model Approach
Keywords:

Livestock has always been considered as an uncompetitive and unsustainable industry which is vulnerable to free-trade agreements. This research is conducted to evaluate the impacts of TPP (Trans - Pacific Partnership Agreement) participation on Vietnamese livestock sector via assumptions on tariff removal and lifting of selected non-tariff barriers. This study used the partial equilibrium approach with Global Simulation Analysis of Industry-level Trade Policy Model (GSIM). The result showed that the livestock sector would bear negative impacts from TPP in general. Meat production will be the most vulnerable group due to competition from non-TPP countries. At the same time, domestic customers will benefit more from rising competition on the market.Classification number
