The Decision No. 858/QD-BGTVT which was promulgated by Ministry of Transport in 2014 aims to improve the stability of flexible pavement structures, contributing to mitigate rut damages in recently constructed road projects. In order to assess quantitatively factors which may cause rut damages on asphalt concrete pavements, the research concentrates conducting analyses, tests in lab, evaluations of aggregate properties, gradation, and asphalt binder. Based on the experimental research results and literature review of foreign researches, the research provided a proposal of the application of the S gradation curve for Coarse-Graded of Dense- Graded HMA and the limitation of particle distribution for 12.5 and 19 Dense-Graded HMA in the intersection area of gradation curves prescribed respectively by Vietnam Standards TCVN 8819:2011 and Decision No. 858/QD-BGTVT. Selecting typical aggregates and gradations, design of experiments, and some proposals are presented in this paper.Classification number
