Status of parasitic infection on Pompano (Trachinotus spp) cage culture in Hai Phong

Abstract

The study into parasitological agents infecting cagecultured Pompano (Trachinotus spp) at Cat Ba island, Hai Phong City was carried out from June 2017 to May 2018. The results showed that there were 5 species of parasites, including Trichodina sp., Cryptocaryon irritans, Pseudorhabdosynochus sp., Benedenia sp., and Caligus sp., which infected Pompano. Trichodina sp. had the highest prevalence and intensity of 50.7% and 1-88 parasites/microscope field, respectively, followed by Cryptocarryon irritant (13.8% and 1-30 parasites/ microscope field), Pseudorhabosynochus sp. (3,8% and 1-10 parasites/microscope field), Benedenia sp. (6.3% and 1-7 parasites/fish), and the lowest as Caligus sp. (1.3% and 1-5 parasites/fish). Trichodina sp. were reported on Pompano from January to December while Cryptocaryon irritant and Benedenia sp. were found in March, April, July and March, April and August respectively; however, Pseudorhadosynochus sp. and Caligus sp. just occurred one time in May and November, respectively.
