Abstract

Moving bed biofilm reactor (MBBR) was highly appreciated for wastewater treatment in recent years. In Vietnam, most of carriers for MBBR which was imported had a high efficiency in treatment; however, their price and durability in extreme weather was the great concern. Glass-based pumice was studied as a MBBR carrier, and the resulting material had the specific weight of 9.9 kN/m3 , porosity of 96%, large surface area of 0.35-0.66 m2 /g (the result obtained by BET method). These characteristics of glass-based pumice could be an interesting option for biofilm reactor for wastewater treatment plant.
