A discussion on the new rural development in Vietnam

Abstract

New rural development in Vietnam is a continuous, long-term process and has reached the target of the second phase (2016-2020). The rural appearance has radically changed. Many environmental and socio-economic issues have been solved at the same time and the income of farmers has significantly increased. There has also been a change in rural residents’ lifestyle and activities towards the community’s benefit. Several effective models of the new rural have appeared leading to a more vibrant rural lifestyle. However, there have been lots of obstacles in developing the new rural that need to overcome in the context of new challenges in sustainable development. By using introspective approach, problem tree analysis, observations, and experiences, the author analysed the secondary information accumulated from official documents. Thereby 9 major issues on building Vietnamese new rural areas have been acknowledged to be strongly improved in the coming years. The key solutions for new rural programs in Vietnam are to make a new thinking and promote resident’s self-consciousness. Thus, rural people could access good opportunities to mobilise and manage all resources in an effective way bringing the new rural construction to glorious victory.
