Quality of piggery wastewater and the role of raw wastewater quality assessment determining the treatment technology
Keywords:
anaerobic, piggery wastewater, quality assessment, treatment technologyAbstract
Large-scale livestock farming, particularly pig farming, is encouraged by Vietnam Government. However, waste from large- scale farms is often the cause of the rural environmental degradation in general and water resources in particular. Nowaday, the issue of livestock wastewater treatment is being studied by many research institutions as well as environmental companies, including the KC08.04/11-15 National project. In order to get reliable input data for designing the treatment systems, the authors have introduced some research results on assessing the wastewater quality of Green farm at Hoa Binh province. The results have shown that it is a N, P rich wastewater which contains about 80% of COD in insoluble form (TSS). Therefore, if a good solid separation unit will be introduced, it would reduce the organic load up to 80%, consequently inferred the cost of wastewater treatment. However, the problem will be the high nitrogen, high phosphorus content in handling by biotechnology.
