Abstract

The riparian zone of Red river from the peak of Northern Delta to the urban area of Hanoi capital has an open structure, existing hydrographical and geological windows. There is a close relationship between aquifers (qh and qp) and Red river. The exploitable ground water reserve in the areas of two river banks and sand banks within the river can be 2,517,300 m3/day, including currently exploiting works. If the locations of these works can be adjusted rationally, the exploitable reserve can be raised up to 3,506,400 m3/day. To get the above mentioned reserves, the suitable execution methods are needed such as reverse circulation drilling, backwash well pumping, and good well construction to ensure the exploitation of large capacity. For the construction of wells along river banks and on the river sand banks, the effective methods should be needed to protect wells in the flooding season and erosion condition as well as to assess the impacts of ground water exploitation on the environment and other construction works.
