Cancer Antigen 125 concentration in different types of leukemia

Abstract

Cancer Antigen 125 (CA125) has been used as a biomarker for early diagnosis of several cancers. This study aims to determine concentration of CA125 in Vietnamese patients with leukemia. The blood samples of 103 untreated patients diagnosed with different types of leukemia and 33 healthy individuals were included for this study. Level of CA125 in the blood was measured by ELISA. The results showed that patients with acute lymphocytic leukemia had an increased CA125 level compared to the healthy controls (p<0.05). CA125 level was not significantly different among patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia, acute myeloid leukemia, and healthy individuals (p>0.05). Patients with chronic myeloid leukemia had a lower CA125 level than the healthy controls (p=0.05). The results indicated that CA125 might be a potential marker for early diagnosis of acute lymphoblastic leukemia.
