Some remarks on social and cultural movements in Vietnam in the process of early modernization

Abstract

Early-modern Vietnam has encountered clashes and contacts between two cultures of Eastern and Western. Among these clashes and contacts, social and cultural movements have emerged in the direction of “consolidating” and adapting the new elements of Western culture on the basis of tradition to create the Vietnamese culture with national and modern values. With this article, the author wants to analyse and explain the social and cultural movements under the perspective of “nationalisation” and “early modernization” in the early modern Vietnam.
