Effect of culture conditions on mycelial growth and fruiting body formation of Sanghuangporus vaninii strain PLV1

Abstract

Sanghuangporus vaninii is a species of medicinal mushroom rich in bioactive compounds with remarkable pharmacological activities, including antioxidant, anticancer, and immunomodulatory effects. This study aimed to optimise the conditions for mycelial cultivation and fruiting body production of the S. vaninii PLV1 strain collected from Hoang Lien National Park, Lao Cai Province, Vietnam. The results showed that the PLV1 strain achieved optimal mycelial growth on PDA and MEA media at pH 6 and 30^oC. Glucose, peptone, and yeast extract were identified as the most suitable carbon and nitrogen sources for promoting mycelial development. Fruiting bodies of the PLV1 strain were successfully formed and developed on sawdust-based substrates supplemented with corn bran, rice bran, or wheat bran, achieving a biological efficiency from 1.63±0.51 to 2.09±0.90%. This is the first study to successfully cultivate S. vaninii in Vietnam. These findings provide an important scientific foundation for developing artificial cultivation protocols for S. vaninii in Vietnam and support further investigations into the medicinal potential of this species.
