Abstract

Objective: To analyse the use of treatment regimens and the incidence of adverse drug events (ADEs) in patients receiving treatment for drug-resistant tuberculosis at Lung Hospital 74. Subjects and methods: A retrospective study was conducted among 87 patients receiving treatment between January 2024 and December 2025. Results: Initially, 35.6% of patients received treatment with a drug-susceptible TB regimen before being switched to drug-resistant TB regimens, including Hr-TB regimens (41.4%), shorter MDR-TB regimens (29.9%), and longer MDR-TB regimens (28.7%). Among the shorter regimens, the BPaLM regimen was the most frequently used (73.1%). Overall, 97.7% of patients experienced at least one ADE; however, only 16.38% experienced grade 3 or higher ADEs requiring treatment regimen modification. ADEs involving hyperuricaemia were more common with Hr-TB and shorter MDR-TB regimens, whereas ADEs involving elevated transaminase levels were more frequently observed with longer MDR-TB regimens. Conclusions: Although a substantial proportion of patients initially received drug-susceptible TB regimens, all were subsequently switched to drug-resistant TB regimens following a confirmed diagnosis, in accordance with the guidelines of the National Tuberculosis Control Programme.
