Abstract

Leucospermia may cause a decrease in the number and quality of sperm, which may also be related to genital tract diseases such as urogenital tract infections, vasectomy, etc. This study aims to find out a link between leucospermia and some semen parameters in infertile men. A total of 400 semen samples of infertility males aged from 28 to 50 were tested for semen parameters according to WHO 2000 standards. The samples with round cells ≥1 million/ml were stained and counted leucocytes in semen by the peroxidase staining method. The results showed that the percentage of samples with round cells ≥1 million/ml accounted for 26%, the proportion of samples with leucospermia accounted for 6.25%. The mean sperm densities in the group of leucospermia and the group of non-leucospermia were 90.48 million/ml and 71.16 million/ml, respectively. This difference was not statistically significant with p>0.05. The group of non-leucospermia had an average normal morphological sperm count of 9.22%, higher significantly than this average value of 7.44% in the group of leucospermia. The group of non-leucospermia had mean sperm motility of 41.6 µm/s, significantly higher (p<0.05) than the group of leucospermia (35.3 µm/s). Conclusions: an increased number of white blood cells in the semen ≥1 million/ml related to a reduction in the average rate of motility and reduced the normal morphological sperm ratio. Leucospermia did not affect sperm density. This is a suggestion for the improvement of sperm quality by reducing the number of white blood cells in the male infertility semen.
